Bantams Football Team
I'm looking for any information on the Bantams Football Team, Church House, Bury. I have a photo of the team, including my Great Grandfather Thomas Lander. It must be pre WWI as he was KIA in France.
any help would be most appreciated
thank you

Do you have any other details on thomas. Can you say what regiment he was in or his service number,or date he was killed in France ? Re Bantams it was a term used in ww1 for soldiers who were 5'2 so it could have been a team from the army before they were posted abroad.

Thomas was in the 17th btn Lancs Fusiliers and they were known as a bantam battalion
I take it you know he was killed in action 27th july 1917.

yes thank you, I have his death details, I thought the photo was of a church football team in Bury before he went to war, am I incorrect in thinking that?

Re: Bantams Football Team
Thank you very much, I'll go and have a look now...I was under the impression the football team was something he was involved in prior to the War, but now I'm starting to wonder if it was actually something to do with the batallion he was in?David Platt wrote:Hi Tilleymint,
