I am researching a family ancestor who came to live at Nuthall Lodge in 1841-1861 His name was Thomas Hook born 1798 in Birmingham. His wife's name was Jane and they had 8 children. Thomas enlisted in the 52nd Regiment of Foot at the age of 16yrs and fought at the Battle of Waterloo and in Canada, his war records show he was dischared from the army due to ill health and came to live at Nuthall Lodge (Grant's Estate). I believe one son reached adulthood and several daughters. I am keen to know his burial place, (I believe Nuthall Lodge was in St. John's Parish). Are there any inscription records for this church?

Hi sue
The the spelling is Nuttall (an area in Ramsbottom) If the Grants are mentioned then Ramsbottom is the right area. There is a St Johns church in Shuttleworth (near Ramsbottom)That is where you should focus your search.

Regards

Duncan.
