Hello all.

This is a picture gleaned from the Bury Image Bank under the " Heap Bridge " web-page.

As you can see it's a picture of a steam locomotive but the absence of any text doesn't give the viewer any idea as to what event/occasion is being carried out.

Can any forum members supply any information ?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry about this - I must be doing something wrong but don't know what. My lifes full of senior moments these days.

Anyway, for anybody interested, you can view the picture, as I've mentioned, at the Bury Image Bank.

Apologies. steam Icon_redface

steam Empty Steam at Heap Bridge

Post  Roy Turner Tue Aug 03, 2010 10:34 am

Hello Curtis44
I'll have a go at the url -
http://www.buryimagebank.org.uk/frontend.php?action=zoom&keywords=Ref_No_increment;MATCHES;%28^|%20+%29b02710%28$|%20+%29&continueUrl=
This should work for anyone interested. (Sorry but it doesn't. Try copying and pasting into your browser)

The firm of Yates Duxbury used to be at Heap Bridge and they had a railway siding at the works connected to the Bury-Heywood line (now the East Lancashire Railway). I was wondering if they had a special staff excursion at some time taking off from the works. I will see another member of the Local History Society this week so I will ask him about it.

Regards,
Roy Turner

Hi Roy - thanks for the reply and the advice.

I've managed successfully to cut and paste the image and e-mail it to myself but for whatever reason, as you know, the link won't work for this site. I'm no " computer buff " so I'm unable to pin it down. Such is life.

Anyway, back to the topic.

I've just finished researching a brief history of Yates Duxbury in regard to the steam loco. connection and discovered there were three tank engines working simultaniously on the site and I'm pleased to report that they all escaped the cutter's torch and are still operating today albeit in a limited capacity.

So - on to your theory. It sounds perfectly feasible that the staff would have a " works do " which involved a railway connection and I think you may have nailed it - good thinking.

Thanks for your imput.

Regards,

Curtis44.

Just to let you know that after some more research and outside help I've managed to track down the info to accompany the picture.

The image was taken 28/07/62 and depicts " The Salford Hundred Tour " organized by the " Roch Valley Railway Society ".

Mystery solved. steam Icon_biggrin
