The Lancashire Fusiliers' Memorial
For many years the War Memorial of the Lancashire Fusiliers has stood on Bolton Road on the site of the former Barracks and near where the Fusiliers Museum at present stands. There has been much talk and controversy about the moving of this Memorial to Sparrow Park in the town centre where it would be seen by many more people and next to the new Fusiliers' Museum in Moss Street. But not everyone is happy about this arrangement. What are your views on this subject?
Lutyens War Memorial
The Lutyens War Memorial as I understand it is the Property of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, and
I am sure they would support a move to have the Memorial placed in Sparrow park next to the Museum.
This would allow a lot more people to see the memorial being as it will be nearer to all the transport links
and will be seen by more Visitors to our Town
It will also be a lot less prone to Damage by Vandals.

The Lutyens Memorial
Thanks David for your reply. Your comments about more people seeing the Memorial in the town centre and the better protection from vandalism are very valid. Some people feel that a new memorial would be appropriate in Sparrow Park and the original site for the Lutyens' one would then be preserved on the site of the former barracks.

Hi Roy,
I can understand that some people are not happy to have the Memorial moved from outside of the Barracks, but what Guarantees do we have that the Memorial and the
Barracks will be as they are now, A few years down the line they could be gone and an Housing estate be in its place.
No I think it would be better to move the origanal Memorial to sparrowpark were it
will be looked after and seen by more People, but there again this is not just my opinion.

Hi Roy,
Just to drop you a line to let you know that the both Proposels for the
Memorial have been Passed at the planning meeting.
The Memorial will be moved to sparrowpark next to
the Museum.
